Anyone familiar with laws that are pushing for an electronic medical record?

I am interested in researching laws that are pushing for health care providers to implement an electronic medical record. I am also interested in learning who has paid for lobbiests to push this kind of legislation through. I suspect some of the beneficiaries of this, software companies who write EMR software pushed heavily for this.

Anyone familiar with laws that are pushing for an electronic medical record?
I suspect you are correct.
Reply:As far as I have seen everybody wants it, not just software companies.

The government wants it because it will cut down on fraud and when something is investigated the process will be easier and cheaper.

Most hospitals want it as in the end it will be cheaper. Sure some comlain about the cost and cost for training but it will still be cheaper.

Groups like the AARP want it so that if someone is say at a different hospital a doctor will be more able to access a full medical history quicker.
Reply:biggest push is to control fraud caused by government payer insurance programs, medicid and medicare; they need an electronic system so computers can monitor payments and records for consistancy
Reply:nope but it sounds like a great idea. im tired of the endless paper work nurses do
Reply:lol
