Has the Bush Administration's policy toward funding embryonic stem cell research struck the best balance?

Has the Bush Administration's policy toward funding embryonic stem cell research struck the best balance between ethical concerns and potential medical advances? If not, what changes would you make to policies in this area? Do you support the bill now before Congress seeking to reverse Bush's policy in this area?

Has the Bush Administration's policy toward funding embryonic stem cell research struck the best balance?
No. Since stem cells that don't get used for research go into the garbage, to refuse to use them is silly.
Reply:Government should not be funding Private research. It is just another form of Corp. welfare
Reply:The rest of the world is way ahead of us in genetic research, all because Bush can't separate religion from government.
Reply:I think Bush is right about this one. The government should not be involved in funding stem cell research. It just opens the door to too many ethical questions. I do not support the bill.
Reply:Yes. It's not illegal to research, and we're not forcing tax payers to spend money. If the stem cells are are promising as hyped, private investors will be lining up to fund the research.
Reply:Bush is so hypocritical, these stems cells help people fighting all kind of disease. He would rather throw what he call little babies in the garbage than to help cure disease. That is what he means just don't use this because I would rather see them thrown in the dump or trashed than let a person use these to live. That is not religion that is so phony, if he going to be so religious than stop all these troops being killed for no reason other than greed for oil. a person life is not worth more than oil than he needs to get his bible out to the Ten Commandments that states , "Thou shall not Kill: not "Thou Should Not Use A Stem Cell To Save A. Life".
Reply:This is not something the taxpayers should be funding - contrary to millionaire Michael J. Fox's belief.
Reply:Bush's policy is in the best interest of the people if they could get both sides of the story. To bad the media and dems are so biased. Adult stem cells are the only ones known to work so far but you won't hear that form the so called main stream media....
Reply:What balance?

Bush believes no stem cells should die for research but it's okay for thousands of our soldiers to die in this war that he started.
Reply:It's a somewhat lame compromise but fair enough given the political climate IMO.

There really are no ETHICAL concerns. Biologists and medical ethicists have no problem with stem cell research.

Bush's concerns are RELIGIOUS in nature, which IMO is inappropriate interference in government.

But rather than beat it to death, Bush's compromise will suffice until such research becomes so critical and necessary that rich Christians will want to live longer and it will become as natural as blood transfusions are today.
Reply:I support the bill. Bush's "policy" is nothing more than one more instance of the religious right forcig their religion on the rest of us.

And its long overdue that real Christians told these right-wing fakes where to get off unless and until they start following Christ instead of their hate-filled political agenda.
