President bush just announced that he vetoed the bill on ebryonic stem cell research.?

do you think it is a step backwards in medical research? do you thinkg his reasonings justify his decision?

President bush just announced that he vetoed the bill on ebryonic stem cell research.?
Because Embryonic stem cell search if from unborn fetus. In order to get these you have to do an abortion. There is no research that states that this type of stem cell research will gather you more benefits. Most doctors agree that they are able to get all they need from the NON embryonic stem cell research. These stem cells are retrieved from Adult stem cells and the umbilical cord of fully developed new Born babies. That is why the President Vetoed Embryonic stem cell research.
Reply:I think the President vetoed the bill because he can not understand what it does or how it works. To the person that said an abortion must be performed to obtain embryonic stem sells, please, please, read a book, watch a documentary, or something before you go spewing incorrect information everywhere.

Most stem cells used for research come from blastocyst-stage embryos that are left over after successful in vitro fertilization.

I think that stem cell research could lead to many medical break through. It kills me when people say there is no evidence they can help.....of course not....that's why we need to do the research.

I am guessing these are Bush's people, and that they use his same form of backwards logic.
Reply:Hold on a second.

Take a breath.

Calm down.

He vetoed a bill that will give FEDERAL FUNDING to embryonic stem cell research, he did not outlaw the practice.

So, one more time for the people in the back.

Research goes on, without tax dollars.
Reply:I'm glad he has stuck to his principle's. I do not want my tax money going towards something that is against my belief system.
Reply:Leogirl is WRONG! You don't perform an abortion to get stem cells, they are grown in a petrie dish.
Reply:Good. People live too long anyways.
Reply:I think it's a giant step in the wrong direction and, frankly, it makes my stomach turn! It's ok to test on animals, it's ok to run human trials, but tissue created in a lab isn't an acceptable means of research?! I don't believe I've seen the man construct a resonable argument for his decision.
Reply:When Bush provided the *first* government funding of existing embryonic stem cell lines, he said he would not support spending the peoples' money on additional destruction of potential humans. He said this years ago, and (shockingly to some) he held to this promise.

He believes in the sanctity of human life, especially the innocent unborn. This is an honest, honorable and reasonable reason for him to veto this bill. I certainly agree with him.

But this does not make either side monsters or idiots. It is a matter of personal belief regarding the human status of embryos. If Congress overrides the veto, so be it. But maliciously maligning Bush for sticking to his beliefs and convictions is wrong. And it demonstrates who is causing the divisiveness in the US.
Reply:Before people complain they should research the facts. He didnt veto the research , just spending public funds to pay for it. The drug companys that will profit from the research can fund it.But hey , its easier to bash bush. I dont care for bush , but lets be fair.
Reply:i think it's really a step back. he's really limiting the powers of medicine and technology and this is something that could LITERALLY save MILLIONS of lives!!!

i don't think bush really has a GOOD reason too be honest. i mean, if he was PERSONALLY affected by this disease, whether it be him, his wife or someone related too him, he would think completely differently, for sure. bush as a president should try and put himself in other people's shoes and make decisions after viewing both sides carefully and and open-mindedly.

*sigh* i don't think ANYTHING good/productive is going to happen over the next two years.
Reply:No. It may be a step forward. Adult stem cell research has already created treatments and therapies for over 100 diseases while embryonic stem cells have yielded exactly zero. In fact, some tests on lab mice using embryonic stem cells has quickly killed or disabled them. At this point, embryonic stem cell research is a dead horse and throwing away funding on it when viable adult stem cell research may just as well provide cures for the same diseases trumpeted by the pro-embryonic money hounds is ridiculous. The public shouldn't be forced to finance this.
