My friend was injured in Italy and received terrible medical care. They have now sent him an outrageous bill. Does he have to pay?
If you know answer this question, could you please also tell me the source of your information so I could do some additional research? Thank you!!!
Does a foreign country have authority to collect on medical bills from a US citizen?
The answer is, if you have medical treatment, you pay for it! Just like you do in your own country.. There is no such thing as a free lunch! The quality of the medical care notwhithstanding!
From your question, I'm guessing that your friend is back in the USA, in which case I'm a little surprised they let him go home without paying. Now he is back in the USA, tell him to tear up the bill and throw it away.
Reply:If your friend is still in Italy, they can make him pay. Rots of ruck trying to collect if he's in America.
Reply:Yea, of course. Just because he's an American, doesn't mean he's better than anyone else. It's the same with us, foreigners getting medical help in America. If you don't have insurance, you're screwed.
I'm from Ukraine, so I know this stuff.
Reply:they should heck i work in billing we need our money from them when they visit why should this be any different . he choose to go to the doctor because the standards are different don't mean they are at fault. if he felt the treatment was poor or going to be poor he should have refused treatment. then he could fly back here and let some American quack make i his issue worse...
i hope that answered ur question.... oh yeah may i ask oh yeah he's not dead is he ...great then i guess you do owe them some money. i understand the bill is high but its the principle of the matter.he choose them they didnt choose him.
