I have done some research and keep receiving conflicting information. Some people say that medical transcription is great and finding an at home job is not too difficult. Others say that without at least 2 years experience an at home job is impossible.
Also, what kind of money is possible working PT?
Is medical transcription really worth it?
Hi,
You have a good question. It is easy if you are doing clinical accounts in the early stage. Hospital accounts will be difficult. In clinical accounts, most of the time one or two, max 5-10 doctors will be there. It is easier for you to transcribe after working for one or two months. In the case of hospital work, thousands of doctors will be there, it is difficult to understand formatting, structure, and different accents for beginner.
Reply:yes you can get it easily

Reply:Not completely impossible, but less likely. There are jobs for beginners but you're likely not to get paid as well - so if you do Medical transcribing you may want to start out part-time at first so you have another income helping while you get started learning OR find a job with a local hospital or doctor's office that won't mind you being a "newbie". Then at least your pay will probably be hourly instead of by production.
If you work by production, once you get fast, you can expect to make between 15$ and 25$/hour on average. But, if the work is slow then your pay will be less those payperiods (like holidays, summer vacations, etc...) This kind of work ebbs and flows :o) But, you can just take advantage when there is a lot of work and save up for those weeks when there isn't much.
It's a nice field most of the time, but I'm getting bored with it (going on 8 years now lol)
Reply:It's usually the schools that are saying that finding a home job is easy -- those of us in the trenches know it isn't so easy.
Hopefully the school you choose will have job placement assistance. Sometimes you need to work anywhere -- usually hospital or doctors office -- for a while before working from home.
Real jobs plus great info at the website below.
Reply:It all depends on the company you work for; you usually get paid more working directly from a hospital or healthcare facility; If you work with a contracted agency you may not get benefits or great compensation.
