If I were to die today my parents would have the legal and moral right to donate my body to federally funded medical and crime scene research.
From my point of view when it comes time to distroy the left over embryos from a fertilization clinic, the parent should have the choice to donate the embryos to federally funded research if they want to just like they also have the option of donating a baby's body to federally funded research.
I fail to see how this is an abortion issue. I would have thought all issues regarding abortions would have been done when the mass number of embryos were created.
Why is embryonic stem cell research an abortion issue?
Well put, and I agree with you. Thought out and correct. Thanks for speaking for the Smarter people!
Reply:I know, it's ludicrous to some (me too), however many people believe that the baby is human and has rights and can feel everything and has a destiney and a soul from the moment of conception. Also people are worried that by making babies who will not grow up and live normal lives scientists will begin to clone and "play god"
Reply:since it requires killing the baby to do and its completely unnecessary now, why should it not be an issue?
umbilical cords are a lot better source for such research and you don't have to kill anyone to get one.
But then, that doesn't move the abortion agenda action line forward.
Reply:I agree with you. I feel that the research done is so important. I don't understand why there's an abortion connection either. Even morally, why wouldn't you want to contribute to science and society if it could help so many people in the long run?
Reply:No it is not a abortion issue. No one is suggesting that aborted embryos be used. The request to our congress was to use the embryos from Invitro fertilization that are even today being destroyed. Invitro fertilization is so expensive that poor people can not afford it, so that concern is not valid Also as far as I can find out no one is paid for the discarded .embryos. If donating the embryos for stem cell research is abortion then the destruction of embryos is abortion.
Reply:The fear is that the poor and indigent will have abortions to generate money for giving their embryos for research
Reply:The religious conservatives got a hair up their axx about this, and like everything else, they couch it in absolutist morality terms so even tho the frozen embryos would be thrown in the trash if not used for research, they deem that better than curing people of Alzheimers or having people with spinal cord injuries ever walk again. Isn't religion wonderful? They are the ones running the government now so they get to make the rules, and that is one that they have made.
Reply:I couldn't agree with you more. We need to and have an obligation to be conducting stem Cell research. Yes, it should be the individuals choice to donate the cells.
It is an abortion issue b/c in order to obtain the cells, an unborn baby needs to die and those who believe that killing an unborn baby is murder, believe murder occurs in order to obtain the cells.
