I'm a college freshman working to become a doctor someday, I don't want a ton of debt coming out of medical school either, I began researching and came across the Medical Services Corp for the USN.
Will this require me to go to boot camp?
When joing the Medical Services Corp, will I be required to go to bootcamp?
I do not know about the Navy, but for the Army, if you do ROTC and join as an officer, you do not have to do Basic Training. However, if you go enlisted into the medical service corps as a corpsman, then you do have to go to bootcamp. As an enlisted person in any branch of the military, there is... almost... no MOS (or job) you can do that does not require boot camp. It is just one of those rights of passage that every serviceman/woman must go through.
EDIT: Blazej. While I appreciate your catching my mistake, there is no need to be rude to other people. You should learn some civility if you hope to get very far in this world.
Reply:No. You won't be going to boot camp. You will be going to an officer orientation and indoctrination course. But, if you plan on being a doctor, you may be thinking of the Navy Medical Corps. The only clinician-type doctors in the Medical Service Corps are clinical psychologists and podiatrists.
There is a program for you to attend and complete medical school at the Navy's expense. The source below is a link to the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.
