Federal tax dollars being spent on research studies to determine which color Easter egg is most popular. How?
Constitutionally, NO Federally funded research is valid. Article 1, Section 8 of the US Constitution lists the powers granted to Congress. Funding research is nowhere on the list. The closest I can find is the power "To promote the Progress of Science and useful Arts, by securing for limited Times to Authors and Inventors the exclusive Right to their respective Writings and Discoveries". This authorizes Copyrights and Patents. FUNDING is never authorized.
Question: If a study is worth doing, why don't private companies do it for profit?
Answer: Because the government has already paid for it.
Reply:I believe that much of my tax money is well-spent, but far from all. There is much too much "pork" still in federal spending, and my congressman is one of the kings of pork. And before you comment, I vote in every election, always vote for his opponent when he has one, he doesn't always, and when he does, the person is usually not a serious candidate - the current guy's ability to supply pork to his constituents buys him a lot of votes.
