Questions about Medical Transcriptionist/medical coding/stay at home careers?

I have been researching the medical transcription/medical coding career, but I would like to have more knowledge from individuals that actually have a stay at home career. Do you like it? Is it everything you thought it would be? Are there any other home careers (besides day-care) that I could look into? Any information would be helpful.

For transcription or coding, you have to have a minimum of one year of on-the-job training before you can work at home. Most companies though, require 3-5 years of on-the-job work. Don't be fooled to think you can go to school and then just start working from home, it doesn't work like that. And if someone says they'll hire you with no experience, then you don't want to work for that company, you'll probably never get paid!

As far as your education, your best bet is to go to an accredited school and get an A.S. degree so you can sit for the RHIT examination. Not all schools are accredited so do the research first! Check with your community college, or visit www.ahima.org to find out the list of accredited schools.
Reply:my cousin went to school for that, thinking he could work at home from his computer. Well you can, but after you put in a year in an office first. That was not what he thought is was going to be.
