Hey I am a 16 year old high school student and I am looking to do any kind of science/medical research. I do not really know where I can go in order to get this opportunity so I am looking for some help. I would be very happy to do an internship of some kind even if it starts in the summer. I live in NJ. Thank you
Research oppurtunities for high school students?
Hi,
I was involved with two summer internship oppurtunities. What are you interested in: my interests were in chemistry. So I did my work at Monmouth University. Or if you are interested in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, there is a program at Rutgers University called the waksman scholars program (I currently may mutant clones for the program).
People to contact:
For the chemistry project: It is called Project SEED (you can contact carolyn supplee at monmouth university and she may help you. You can also do Project SEED at rutgers, which ever one is closer to you. You do get paid for this (I was paid around $2500 for the summer of my junior year and then near $5500 for the summer of my senior year) This does pay well and it will be great to pay off college. Publication: You may get published, depends how good the work is.
For the waksman scholars program:
This is a college course that you get credit for. You take exams and quizes, just like a regular college course. You also have a high probability of getting a publication on NCBI. You do have to pay for the course (from my knowledge).

I advise you to start contacting people now. To when to sign up for the different programs. I know that for the project SEED program, I signed up during my junior year.
I do not know about the waksman scholars program.
good luck.
