Why do medical facilities like UCSD(University of Cal San Diego) hire inadequate nursing and supportive staff?

Why are my serious healthcare concerns being ignored by the doctors and nurses at UCSD? When I have a disease that requires extensive care, why am I not getting the care that I need. I have insurance to cover the care and I pay for this in premiums. This is suppose to be a leading research medical facility, and my care is sub par at best. I have met several patients that have expressed the same view as mine. Getting appointments to see specialist doctors at UCSD several weeks and many times, months of waiting. By the time you get to see them, your condition has gone untreated and has progressed even further. Then follow-up appointments require the same waiting period. I am writing in an effort to promote change in a healthcare system that is broken.

I used to work at UCSD. I am now at UCI medical center. UCSD is a very good hospital.

One clue to your question might be this: UCI and UCSD are two of the most profitable hospitals in the UC system. They also have a reputation of not paying their nursing staff to keep with the other competing hospitals, like Kaiser. New grad nurses go to UCI and UCSD to get their experience because since this is a very excellent teaching facility, they know that they will learn a lot of procedures.

Then, after a year or two of experience, they go to places like Kaiser. Right now, our union, CNA is fighting with the UC brass for another raise.

I'm sorry that this has turned out this way for you. If you're unhappy, there is Scripps Mercy across the street from UCSD.

Good luck to you
