Why do they want you to do research to get into medical school? Y that and not business or other unrelated...

How to research is a learned skill. Research is not unrelated to medicine. As a Doctor you will often have to do research to diagnose a condition. You will not have every one memorized.

Why do they want you to do research to get into medical school? Y that and not business or other unrelated...
The mission of most medical schools is three-fold: teaching, patient care, and research. Thus research carries a heavy weight in selecting the kind of applicant to accept into the school. The ability, interest, and experience in research indicate to the school the scope of your intellitual pursuit and curiosity as well as your determination and maturity. Hard core, basic science research resulting in publications will vault you over other applicants with similar GPA and MCAT scores. Good luck!!
Reply:To be a doctor, should be, to be a life long student of medicine. When a doctor forgets that, they become a quack or a bureaucrat. To do research is for them to say "get used to it, this is what you are now".
Reply:Why do you want to be a doctor? Of course you have a reason. And when you do research or volunteer at hospitals, you could tell them that through this you have realized you wanted to be a doctor.

It's not required but it'll be plus points in your application.
