What kind of college do you have to go to to get into Medical School and how long do you have to go?

I want to go to medical school in the future and I've done research and plenty of websites say that you have to go to another college before going to Medical School. I thought you could apply straight out of high school but I'm glad that you have to go to another college before then because I'm a hard worker and this will motivate me better than just coming out of high school when people don't really know what they want to do in life.I live in SC also so please list possible colleges before Medical School that are close to SC.

What kind of college do you have to go to to get into Medical School and how long do you have to go?
Most medical schools require at least a bachelor's degree before acceptance into medical school (and those that do not rarely accept anyone without at least a bachelor's). However, there are a few programs that offer 6-7 year programs that are combined BS/MD programs right out of high school. They allow you to go through a specific program as an undergrad and take your pre-med requirements. You can apply for medical school after your 2nd/3rd year of undergrad and enter without officially graduating so it only takes 6-7 years to get through. You still have to take the MCAT and entrance into the program does not automatically enter you in the class of medicine (but if you recieve certain MCAT scores and have a certain GPA you will get in). There are not a lot of these programs and I don't know of any specifically in SC, but Baylor and Washington University offer such programs. Good luck!
Reply:Medical school is like grad school or law school, you have to have an undergraduate degree first. People usually major in something in the life sciences like biology or chemistry. Check out collegeboard.com. You can enter all the things you want in a school, like location and size of classes and it will give you some schools might like. Good luck!
Reply:You can go to any 4 year university and major in anything before medical school. The only real requirements are that you have to take certain courses in chemistry, biology, physics, and such. You need to check with some medical schools you would like to go to for specifics.

So basically, do what you like to do during your undergraduate years, worry about medical school later.
Reply:You need a four year bachelor's degree first. You major in "Pre Med", which means a lot of courses in biology and chemistry, and a few in math and physics.

Any good state school such as USC, UNC, NC State would be fine.
