High Paying Research Jobs After Medical School?

Hey! I'm looking at the physician salary page, and I see a lot of high numbers for the doctors performing surgery or working with patients, but are there any high paying jobs that require more of a research field to it? I'm looking at like 200-300k a year, and I was wondering if I HAD to become a practicing doctor in a hospital to make big money, or if I could stay in a lab.

Thank you for your contributions!.

The first question that comes to my mind is why would you want to obtain an MD if your preference is lab research? Most medical research is done by PhD's.

You won't find a high salary in medical research that is performed in conjunction with the delivery of health care. Most people involved in that type of research are motivated by trying to advance health care.

Higher salaries are paid by private industry, where the motivation is profit. The good news is that if you're good, they'll come looking for you. The bad news is that you have to produce something in a relatively short period of time or you're out of a job.
Reply:My husband is an MD and left reseach to practice medicine and now he makes more than 3 times what he made doing research. He was with a top school and they actually pay the least.

You could also meet with a Counselor at the University to see what he/she thinks.
